"text-align: justify" for topic replies

miLLe 7 years ago updated by Henrietta Nagy 5 years ago 8

I think it would make it a lot nicer to read if the topic replies are in text align justify by default instead of left for everyone. Here you can see the difference. At top text-align: left and at the bottom text-align: justify. Which one would you like to read more? ;o)

Option to complain about ATs gradings

Someone 7 years ago updated by Kayte / Angela 7 years ago 9

I was graded by an AT, who to say it mildly had graded me completely wrong, now I wouldn´t normally waste my time on complaining, but when the AT is three grades away from the proper one it´s a problem. I had a friend doublecheck my assignment just to make sure that I wasn´t being dumb, I wasn´t.

I get that they are the ones who are supposed to check graders, but when they are the graders themselves we should have the possibility to complain and get a second opinion!

Therefore I suggest we get the complain button on AT´s gradings like we do on the regular ones.

This would also be a great way to make sure that our TAs actually do their job properly and avoid them being all-powerful in the gradingsdepartment.

If normal graders should be punished for wrong gradings so should TAs, but that´s just my opinion.

Group chats for Staff

James Ford 8 years ago updated by World of Potter 5 years ago 4 1 duplicate

Like a house chat for the staff. And/or specific teams, like one for SoMe, one for Prefects and one for staff only. This because owls are slow and that group owls have proven to slow the sites conciderably at some moments.

Marauders Map filter option (bad name, please read description)

Abigail Baines 8 years ago updated by Marmuc 8 years ago 2

I'm more than sure everyone had that moment where they needed a teacher urgently, even better a specific teacher, and went to the marauders map to look trough all the users to see if that person was online.

How about a filter kind of option(dont have a better name for it) ?

Like, when you enter marauders map, you have all the colours at the top and what it stands for right? how about when you click on teacher for example it shows only the teachers who are currently online? it would be a lot easier than scrolling through sometimes 100 users.

Owl Archiving

Agnes Dupont 8 years ago updated by World of Potter 5 years ago 2

It would be nice if instead of / in addition to the ability to delete owls, we were able to archive them or mark them as read. This way we could keep recent messages in our inbox and filter out older messages but still revisit old conversations if needed.

House Cup Achievements

Agnes Dupont 8 years ago 0

The gifts to the top 50 members of the winning House are nice, but very impermanent. I think an achievement should be earned for the top 50 of the winning House called Top 50 in House Cup I. The next here would be Top 50 in House Cup II, then III, IV, etc. There could also be even higher ranks like Top 10 and Top 5. This would be a more permanent and memorable way to address winners.

Job Authorizations

Deamonicus 11 months ago updated by Glinda Rose 7 months ago 3

I know that job authorizations have been abolished for good reason. But today, we're far too dependent on the people in charge, which increases the workload that wasn't necessary in the first place. Let me explain:

Let's take the Backstory Leader as an example: he can use his permissions to approve or reject a backstory. In this case, an message is sent. However, he or she is also responsible for texts and profile photos. When Leaders (MoM & HM) are not logged in, no one can make these changes. But it's up to the Backstory Leader to ensure that all users have the right profile.

Let's also take the example of the Head of House: he often manages several teams, but has to check the veracity of his candidates' declarations. However, he is obliged to consult Leaders to obtain IP addresses and thus verify this information.
It's understandable for a student job to have to ask the Leaders for this information. But it's much less justifiable for jobs that aren't governed by the same rules. It all depends on people's ability to fully assume their responsibilities.

These are just a few examples among many, but in the end, it slows us all down and adds a considerable workload for the leaders. And although it's rare, it can happen that leaders are absent. Since we've lost most of the permissions linked to our positions, we can't take over. And yet, the goal of the team of administrators was to be able to relieve the leaders and take over in their absence.

I understand that you don't want to give all the permissions back to everyone. That's why I'd like to put forward an idea.

Why not detach the permissions linked to positions and allow leaders to assign certain specific permissions to people according to their responsibilities?

Let me explain:

I don't know if it's technically feasible, but it would allow people other than leaders to perform certain tasks.

When leaders recruit someone, a drop-down list could appear, allowing them to define the appropriate permissions for that position. In this way, each person could carry out his or her job from A to Z without having to take on unnecessary permissions.

For example, only the Prefect Leader could have the power to ban a user in agreement with the leaders. If a problem were to arise one day in the absence of a leader, only the Backstory Leader could modify profiles. HoH could have access to IP addresses.

Each position would thus have the necessary permissions to carry out its missions, in accordance with the degree of trust granted when joining the team of administrators.

Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Replace the fainting system with something more rewarding

Squirrel Jo 3 years ago updated by worlduk more 3 years ago 4

[CONTEXT & DISCUSSION]

The current fainting system, though it is meant to encourage regular activity, can feel a bit counter-productive : users who've been inactive for a while log back in to see most functionnalities unavailable to them for a whole hour, and regulars who've simply been offline for a few hours too many can also get upset about having their character fainted and not able to participate to the life of the site.

However, promoting users' daily connection is beneficial to the site. Therefore if the fainting system is to be modified, it should still encourage activity (and increase in activity and its frequency) from all of the sites' users. I therefore believe that the WoX sites are in need of a new system to promote site activity with less risks of backfiring than the current fainting system.

[MY IDEA & WHY I BELIEVE IT'S THE BEST]

I believe rewards are more powerful than punishments. We as humans tend to continuously seek positive feedback through every one of our actions. We also know that such feedback, when linked to a certain behavior, is likely to encourage said behavior.

Therefore it is most effective to encourage users' activity by rewarding such activity, instead of punishing the lack of daily logging in (by having the user faint). Thus my suggestion is to twitch the current system upside-down : instead of punishing the least active users (which can discourage them even more), I say we should reward the most active ones, who log in every day.

[AN EXAMPLE OF HOW IT MIGHT WORK]

Let's keep the food & drinks bars & great hall free meals system (after all, it is already implemented and is not uninteresting when it comes to universe realism). But let's change their actual impact on site navigation by making it at best, neutral, and at most, rewarding for active users. Here's how I envision it :

- If one of the bars is empty :

          - Current system : fainting, restriction of site functionnalities that can be used (heavily negative feedback)

          - My system : no effect on user or slight reduction of experience gained through site activities (slightly negative to neutral feedback)

- If both bars are not empty :

          - Current system : no effect on user (neutral feedback)

          - My system : boost in experience points gained through site activities : + 10%, 30%, 50%, depending on how full the bars ? (positive to heavily positive feedback)

These are simply examples of positive feedbacks that can encourage people into remaining or getting active on site. They can of course be adapted according to what you believe should be best for the WoX sites.

[CONCLUSION]

In order to encourage daily activity on WoX sites, positive rewarding feedbacks (eg. raise in gained xp) are more efficient than negative punishing feedbacks (fainting). That's why I believe the site should implement my idea.

Thank you for reading this suggestion, I hope you have a great day !

Make Club Owners Club Members!

Calypso Rebelke 3 years ago updated 2 years ago 2

Club Owners Don't Show Up as Members

Club Owners: Not Members?

The Problem

Club owners don't show up as members in their own clubs, sadly! This is unfortunate as I have a few clubs across sites and I use the rank system (GENIUS IDEA, thank you so much for that!!!) to determine member status. In some cases this means there are special statuses, ie: second in command, but what I really use it for is making my co-admins have the "rank" of Admin so my club members can see who to go to for any problems within the club that don't need to involve site staff, such as a member not paying attention to the X rating or posting a topic in the wrong forum.

The Solution

Make Club Owners Club Members automatically, or allow them to apply to the club even after purchasing!

Why Bother With This Idea?

This will greatly benefit anyone who owns a club! This feature being implemented may also encourage users to buy clubs if it is fixed! Plus I know that it will be greatly helpful for me and any other club owners who use the rank feature to distinguish admins!

Thanks for Reading!

Dyslexic font

Celeste Malfoy 4 years ago updated by Vita Auden 4 years ago 2 1 duplicate

I think you should consider making it so then the whole entire World of Potter site can be in dyslexic font. This would be a setting that you can adjust, so then not everyone has to use this. For people like me, this will make it easier to navigate World of Potter.
